Q: (DSC system only) The yellow trouble light/triangle is lit on the keypad. What does it mean? A: By pressing the asterisk (*) key and then 2, the keypad will display the trouble condition. If it displays the trouble condition with another asterisk (*) after it, press * again to get more information. Trouble conditions that will cause the light to come on are low system battery, device low battery, loss of phone line, fail to communicate, loss of clock, and zone fault or zone tamper.
Q: (DSC system only) Why does the keypad beep when a door is opened and closed?
A: These beeps indicate that the door chime feature is active on the keypad. To turn it off press and hold the door chime button or press *4.
Q: (DSC system only) Why is the green ready light/green check not coming on when all doors and windows are closed? A: Press the right arrow (>) key and scroll over to see which zone is showing open. Go to that location, open and close door or window, check keypad. If still not ready, locate the sensor in the door frame and verify the magnet is still in the door directly across from sensor.
Q: Why did one of my motion sensors false alarm? A: This can happen for several reasons. The most popular reason is spiders, flies and lady bugs. Most of the motions out there have pet immunity technology built in, but when a bug lands on the lens or a spider crawls across lens, it looks like a full size object and will cause an alarm. Another reason usually happens in the winter time when a large plant is put too close to a heat register. When the furnace turns on, the warm moving air causes the plant leaves to move. This can cause an alarm. Another reason is pet immunity. Many motion sensors are pet immune to 40, 60 or 85 pounds. The rectangular DSC motions are pet immune to 60 lbs. The DSC motions with the rounded bottom are pet immune to 85 lbs. The smaller, almost square GE or ITI motions are pet immune only to 40 lbs. Your pet might be too big depending on which style motion you have.
Q: Why is the CO detector chirping and the green LED blinking? A: This is the indication that the device has reached its end-of-life timer. The ESL 240 is rectangular shaped and is no longer made. They had a life span of 5 years to the month of when it was first powered up. You need a new device. The new model has a life span of 6 years.
Q: Why is the smoke detector chirping? A: Because it has a low battery that needs to be replaced. Most wireless smoke detectors that are part of a security system do not chirp. They send a signal to the system and the keypad will let you know which one has the low battery. Many newer household 120 volt smoke detectors have a backup battery (9volt). These will also chirp when they have a low battery. To avoid having the fire department pay a visit, make sure to put your system on test status with the monitoring center before changing the battery.
Q: How do I test my security system? A: First, start by calling Command Center at 1-800-633-2677 and give them your account number and pass code and ask to have your system placed on test. Then arm the system as if you were leaving and wait for it to fully arm. Then start by opening one of your entry/exit doors and let the entry delay expire and go into full alarm. Open/ close other doors (windows if contacted), walk in front of motion sensors. Let system be in alarm for 30 seconds before disarming at keypad. This will insure phone communication. Some systems have a dialer delay still programmed, most do not. Then, call Command Center again to make sure they received some signals. Take account off test.
Q: Why did trouble not clear after changing the battery in a wireless device? A: If you have a DSC security system, once the new battery is in place, the trouble light should reset. If it doesn’t, there is most likely a problem with the device. Call Pyramid for service.
If you have a Simon security system, there is a process to change the batteries in devices. First, remove the batteries. On door/window sensors (long skinny ones) that take two AAA batteries, there is a squared-off “C” shaped cut in plastic that has a tamper switch under it. Press this button 15-20 times without the batteries in. Then put new batteries in, observing polarity, and then open/close the door/window two times to force it to communicate with the panel. The low battery trouble should restore.
On the shorter fatter door/window sensors, remove cover by pressing in on the end with the tab and remove cover. Remove battery and press the tamper switch 15-20 times before installing new battery. Install new battery and put cover back on. Open/close the door/window two times to force it to communicate with the panel. The low battery trouble should restore.
On motion sensors (GE), there are two AA batteries, one on each side of device and can be difficult to get to. Remove device from its base. There are two tabs on one end and one on the other. You will need a thumb and two fingers to slide it apart. Once apart, remove the batteries and on the back of the device, there is a spring sticking out attached to a tamper switch. Press this 15-20 times. Install new batteries and close up and snap it to its base. Low battery trouble should restore.
On GE smoke detectors, remove the device from its base by turning counterclockwise until it stops and pull down. The newer model devices have a cover over the batteries. There are 2 CR123A batteries under cover. Remove them. Press the test button on front of device 15-20 times so all excess voltage leaves device. Place new batteries observing polarity, replace cover and attach to base. Low battery trouble should restore.
Q: How do I reset the system time and date? A: On many newer systems, the time is programmed to change automatically with daylight savings time. One these systems, the only time the clock needs to be reset is if the system was power cycled. If the time and date need to be reset, on the keypad, press [*][6] + [master code] + [1]. Enter the hours and minutes using 24 hr format. If the date happens to be off, change that to. Press # to exit.
On a Maxsys panel, PC4020, press [master code] + [9] + [1]. Enter hours and minutes in 24 hr format. If the date needs to be changed, press > once to get to the date field and change it. Press # # to get out of programming.
On a Simon I, 2 or 3 panel, only the time would need to be reset. This usually occurs twice a year at the start and end to daylight savings time. Gently press the tab on top of the panel to open the outer lid. The panel will begin talking. Using the red numbers under the keys, enter your 4-digit master code. Once the code is entered, find the “clock set” button and press it. Follow the prompts and use the hours and minutes + or – keys to set the time. Once the correct time is sounding, press the “done” key to save it. Now close the lid.

Testing Systems
To be sure that your alarm system is operating properly, we recommend that you test it once a month. We also recommend that you test your system after any work is done at your premises (i.e. construction, electrical work, changes to your telephone service, alarm system repairs, etc.).
Before testing your alarm system, it MUST be placed "on test." Testing your system without placing it "on test" is not recommended and may result in unnecessary dispatches.
To Test Your Alarm System: Your system may be placed on test by calling C.O.P.S. Monitoring at 1-800-633-2677 to tell us that you want to test your alarm system. Please be prepared to provide the following information:

THE RECEIVER AND ACCOUNT NUMBER - OR - THE PREMISES TELEPHONE NUMBER
YOUR CENTRAL STATION PASSCODE (YOU MAY BE REQUIRED TO SPELL YOUR PASSCODE)
THE AMOUNT OF TIME TO BE IN THE "ON TEST" MODE
The C.O.P.S. dispatcher will verify that your system has been placed on test and the test duration. After you receive confirmation it is safe to hang up and test your system by arming your system and tripping the sensors.
• The signals will be received by C.O.P.S., but you will not receive a phone call and we will not dispatch the authorities.
• You can test only one sensor or your entire system. When you're done, call C.O.P.S. and tell them you would like to know your "test results." The dispatcher will confirm the signals received during the test.
• You can leave your system on test and send more signals, or if you are finished testing, tell the C.O.P.S. dispatcher that you are done testing and that you would like to take your system "off test." Taking your system "off test" places it back into active response mode.
• If you do not take your system off test, it will AUTOMATICALLY come off test when the test time you requested expires.
